Talent Spotlight: Rebecca Lesley
"The paintings for the new collection Rebirth are a progression from the previous Fade series, a project that was funded by the Arts Council England, it explored themes of existentialism and the human condition from a more personal female perspective. Whereas Fade was quite a sombre series, Rebirth looks at the next phase, growing in to a lighter sentiment and taking another perspective on existence, excepting it's inevitable cycles.
Aestically, Rebirth is a more symbolic body of work that has been painted to a larger scale. Aiming to merge my style of realism with the illusory qualities of surrealism which I'm starting subtly introduce. I'm inspired by the photosurrealist artist Henrik Uldalen, Alyssa Monks' early body of hyperrealist work and the playfulness in popsurrealist Mark Ryden's oeuvre."
Rebecca is hosting a solo exhibition named Rebirth to showcase her work. The exhibition will take place at The Station Gallery on Silver Street with the opening night being 6.30-10pm on the 6th July.
