BIMM and Boomsatsuma Create Music Videos

Five up-and-coming Bristol bands will be releasing new material with videos created by boomsatsuma Film and Television Diploma students, strengthening a partnership with BIMM.

This is the second year that course lecturer Simon Williams has project managed the production of music videos into the first-year College students’ course curriculum. He worked closely with BIMM, another centre of learning excellence at the heart of Bristol’s vibrant independent music sector providing a range of training pathways into the music industry, to source the bands.

Simon states:

"Like boomsatsuma, BIMM music college places a great importance on students gaining real industry experience. "As well as strengthening their camera and lighting skills, collaborating with music artists gives our students vital experience in project planning and teamwork. They are also working closely with a client to deliver a product that meets their aspiration  - just like being out in the real world."

Prior to Christmas, boomsatsuma’s students based at The Bottle Yard Studio’s for their course, met the bands to storyboard the video concepts. Each band was then filmed on their own set, custom-built by students, at boomsatsuma Studios in Skyline Park facility, which opened in October 2022. In their second term, the students edited the music videos, with ongoing consultation with the artists to fine-tune the final edits.

John E Vistic, BIMM Lecturer/Events, says:

"We are delighted to collaborate with boomsatsuma, who share our ethos of creating opportunities to find careers in the Creative Industries. Producing videos is one of the many essential skills a modern artist needs to have to connect with their audience to get their music heard, so we’re delighted by the experience our students have gained. The videos are of an incredibly high standard and will be a great asset to support the bands’ releasing their material."

Four of the videos were made in collaboration with artists from BIMM Bristol: John E Vistic, Izzie Allard and The Diabolical Bombshells, Sam Paul, Subcultures; and boomsatsuma also worked with one of Bristol's finest up-and-coming independent solo artists, Cinta.

Simon Continues:

"It was great to work with BIMM and five really talented young bands. Our students showed a great level of commitment to developing their skills hugely through this process and I’m delighted by the resulting videos. We’re all looking forward to the release of the five tracks and wish the bands every success in their journeys."
