A report into how our distinctive approach enables young people to flourish academically, emotionally and personally.
At Boomsatsuma, we’ve always believed that education should do more than prepare students to pass exams. It should help them grow into confident, creative people who understand who they are, what they’re capable of and where they want to go next. That belief sits at the heart of Measuring What Matters – a new report exploring the real impact of our creative education model on young people across Bristol.
Commissioned to look beyond traditional performance measures, the report asks a simple but powerful question: what actually helps young people thrive? Written by Dr Perry Walters and Dr David Bainton, associate researchers at the University of Bristol, the study takes a deep, qualitative look at the lived experiences of Boomsatsuma college students and staff, capturing personal stories and real-life moments that aren’t just about exam grades or results.
The findings are both affirming and challenging. Alongside exceptional outcomes – including a 100% student pass rate over the last five years and a 95% course completion rate – the report reveals the deeper conditions that make those results possible: trust, belonging, real-world industry connections, emotional safety and a culture that values individuality. Measuring What Matters doesn’t just evidence impact; it reinforces why a student-centred, inclusive, industry-facing approach to creative education matters now more than ever.
