Happy 50th Birthday to Aardman Animations!
To celebrate five decades of Bristol’s iconic animation studio, our degree students at Bristol Film School created a series of special films as part of Boomsatsuma’s collaboration with Aardman – including the heartwarming A Grand Night Out.
The crew behind A Grand Night Out reflects the way filmmaking is taught at Bristol Film School at Boomsatsuma: through real productions, professional roles and genuine creative collaboration.
From directing and cinematography to production design, editing, sound and production management, our students develop their craft by making ambitious work together -building the practical skills, creative confidence and experience they need to step into the film and TV industry.
The film has been named an Official Selection at Encounters Film Festival – a well-deserved recognition for the student team behind it.
Directed by Elsie Lean, A Grand Night Out was brought to life by a talented student crew: Gustav Canham, Cinematographer and Colourist; Kizzy Mealing, Production Designer; Ella Carroll, Editor; Anna-May Lines, Sound Recordist; Robbie Hedges, 1st AD; and Daniel Norton, Production Manager.
It feels particularly special to celebrate a Bristol creative institution that has inspired generations, while showcasing the next generation of filmmaking talent coming through in the same city.
Watch A Grand Night Out below and join us in wishing Aardman a very Happy 50th Birthday!
